What is the issue?

Will South Carolina take full advantage of its “first fuel” by adopting energy efficiency targets for utilities?

How would it affect South Carolina?

South Carolina is one of the least efficient states in the nation when it comes to efficient use of electricity. The quickest and cheapest way to increase power available for new growth is to become more efficient. The Energy Efficiency Resource Standard would require a 1% annual reduction in electric and natural gas consumption by 2015. Utilities can opt out by providing Public Service Commission approved efficiency programs directly to their customers. As ratepayers and end users of South Carolina’s natural resources, we should all strive to be as efficient as possible in our consumption of resources.

What can you do about it?

Stay involved and support an Energy Efficiency Resource Standard in South Carolina.

  • We win lower energy costs, a cleaner environment, and more efficient homes and businesses.
  • If we continue as one of the least energy efficient States, we will become less competitive as a State through higher utility bills and have more mercury and carbon in our air and water.
