You have to give Charleston County officials credit; they don’t give up.
Fifteen years later, they are still doing their darnedest to sell the idea of a toll road across Johns Island.
Nowadays they are calling it the “Sea Islands Greenway,” a pretty name that sounds all environmental.
They changed the name because people didn’t like the proposal when it was the “Cross Island Expressway” or the “Sea Islands Parkway” — even though both were infinitely better than the project’s original name, which was something like the Johns Island Super-Highway of Rural Death.
Earlier this week, county officials brought the road out for another lap in a public workshop, but not much got solved. The problem is, a lot of people don’t like the idea no matter what you call it.
