As plastic pollution continues to be a problem worldwide, it’s important to make sustainable choices close to home. As North Charleston residents and visitors, you can help reduce your personal use of plastics when you shop and eat at local restaurants providing more sustainable alternatives.
While other municipalities in the Charleston area have taken steps towards plastic reduction, North Charleston has not yet amended their ordinance language to prohibit thick plastic bags from being used at retailers. However, some local businesses have already taken action to use more sustainable alternatives.
While these businesses already offer sustainable packaging alternatives, we hope that in the future, other North Charleston businesses will transition to paper packaging and other sustainable alternatives for cups, utensils, and straws.
We hope that this list of sustainable businesses can help you to make small but mighty changes towards you and your family’s goal of reducing plastic usage.
