South Carolina Coastal Conservation League taps Robert H. Boyles, Jr. as Senior Advisor for Conservation Policy, Advocacy, and Leadership

Charleston, S.C. – Sept. 16, 2025 – The Coastal Conservation League is pleased to announce that Robert H. Boyles, Jr., has joined the organization as Senior Advisor for Conservation Policy, Advocacy, and Leadership. Boyles brings unparalleled experience and expertise in marine policy and natural resource management to the Conservation League’s team, where he will provide strategic counsel on a range of critical issues, helping the organization intensify its environmental advocacy, expand community engagement, and optimize collaborative partnerships.

“We are beyond thrilled to have Robert join the Conservation League,” said Faith Rivers James, Executive Director. “His deep understanding of conservation policy and his track record of effective leadership will be invaluable as we work to address the threats facing our coast. Robert’s career has been defined by his commitment to sound science and collaboration, and we believe his perspective will strengthen our ability to advocate for lasting, comprehensive solutions.”

Boyles previously served as Director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), where he retired from in early 2025 following a distinguished career of over three decades. During his tenure at SCDNR, including his time as Deputy Director for the Marine Resources Division, Boyles was a recognized leader in conservation, earning accolades such as the Capt. David H. Hart Award for his contributions to the sustainable management of marine resources.

Boyles’ extensive knowledge of state and federal conservation policy, combined with his collaborative approach to tackling complex environmental challenges, aligns with the Coastal Conservation League’s mission to protect South Carolina’s natural landscapes, abundant wildlife, clean water, and quality of life. His work will focus on the most pressing environmental threats, ensuring the Conservation League’s efforts are rooted in the best available science and policy.
