A discussion on the long-overdue topic of a Master Plan for the Lady’s Island Village Center, to realize the shared vision from the 2018 Lady’s Island Plan for a walkable, mixed-use village center, will be held next week.
On Monday, September 11th at 3:00 PM, Beaufort County’s Community Services & Land Use Committee will discuss the plan for a walkable center from the Woods Memorial Bridge at Whitehall through the intersection of Sea Island Parkway and Sam’s Point Road.
Join us in urging council members to approve sufficient funding to move forward with a comprehensive Master Plan for Lady’s Island.

Managing rapid, haphazard growth, creating a walkable village center, and addressing traffic congestion along the Sea Island Parkway Corridor were the driving forces motivating and informing the 2018 Lady’s Island Plan, which has been adopted by Beaufort County, the City of Beaufort, and the Town of Port Royal. The 2018 plan laid important groundwork establishing the shared vision for Lady’s Island: a defined sense of place, quality development/redevelopment, a walkable mixed-use village center, a protected environment, interconnectivity and multi-modal transit options, and an enhanced public realm. The implementation of this shared vision for Lady’s Island requires a comprehensive master plan.
Lady’s Island is “the gateway” to the Sea Islands. Whether you are a resident, or live on nearby St. Helena, Dataw, or Fripp Island, you must commute through Lady’s Island on the way in and out of town. The Island’s future growth and development will impact hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors to Beaufort County. Now more than ever, in the face of increasing growth pressures with many commercial and residential projects already approved and underway, it is critical for Beaufort County and the City of Beaufort to work together with residents and allies to create a fully fleshed out Master Plan for Lady’s Island Village Center. The scope of work needed for this type of plan exceeds the county’s previously proposed budget of $25,000.
We have the opportunity right now to ensure Lady’s Island does not continue to grow in a piece-meal fashion, creating another “anywhere-ville” USA. That is why it is critical to show Beaufort elected officials your support for a fully funded and complete Master Plan for Lady’s Island Village Center.
