South Carolina’s blue crab fishery is one of our most profitable. For years, commercial and recreational fishermen have voiced concerns about dwindling blue crab populations. In January, S.C. Department of Natural Resources released a status report where they found that blue crab populations have reached a 50-year low.

The report also provides management recommendations to help preserve blue crab populations for future generations. North Carolina and Georgia already have common-sense safeguards in place. However, South Carolina lacks regulations on this vitally important fishery and our blue crab populations are feeling the impacts.

Please come out to learn more about our beloved blue crab populations and join the discussion on potential management solutions. We hope to see you there!
