Learn about Beaufort’s special tidal creeks and rich cultural connections to oysters from the St. Helena native, bait and oystering expert – Ed Atkins.
At this workshop, you will learn how everything we do on our land affects our tidal estuaries, the importance of conservation and protection of the coastal lands that surround our beloved Lowcountry tidal habitat, why we should care about having healthy estuaries, and about a few ways in which we use our estuaries for food and fun!
Ed Atkins, our favorite oystering and bait expert, will teach us how to sustainably harvest oysters, Holly Sommers from SCDNR will teach us the importance of recycling our oyster shells and about their restoration and management of wild oysters to create additional habitat, and Grant McClure, the Conservation League’s South Coast Office Manager, will teach us all about recreational fishing and how to cast a fly rod.
Please dress to be outside, bring a water bottle, sun protection, and bug spray. Please bring a folding chair if you would like to sit down.
Registration required! Exact location details will be sent prior to the event.
