In late 2024, Anna Kimelblatt joined the team as the Communities & Transportation Program Director, taking the next step in her conservation career. She moved to the Lowcountry in 2015 after graduating from the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts and became a supporter of the Conservation League soon after, following statewide efforts while she attended graduate school at the College of Charleston. Her favorite thing about working for the Conservation League is feeling like she is having a direct impact on the betterment of her community, using her experience to promote smart development practices and be a voice for conservation.
In her new role, Anna will manage projects related to land use, sustainability, and transportation that impact the Charleston Metro area. She will represent the Conservation League at local council meetings and public hearings, develop and advocate for legislative policy relevant to land use, and communicate regularly with members of the public, elected officials, partner organizations, and community leaders.
Before joining our team, Anna worked on Kiawah Island as a naturalist and at SCDNR as a biologist before completing her Master’s in Environmental and Sustainability Studies. While in school, she worked for Charleston County in the Zoning and Planning Department. After graduation, she passed her Certified Floodplain Manager exam and accepted a new position at Charleston County as the Floodplain Management Coordinator, and went on to explore the private sector at an engineering firm where she further expanded her skillset into resilience planning and flood mitigation. In Anna’s free time, you can find her on Folly Beach with her friends, birding at Donnelly or Caw Caw, exploring Lowcountry waterways via kayak, or curled up with a good book and her cat, Pippin!
